Samsung Health App Update Makes Accessing Health Records, Managing Medications and Tracking Food Easier

Samsung aims to empower users’ health applications with a seamlessly connected ecosystem of personal health experiences. Samsung Health makes this possible by aggregating disparate health data into a unified platform, enabling users to easily monitor their health.

In furtherance of this initiative, Samsung Health now offers expanded health management capabilities,1 enables users to access their health records, manage medications effectively and monitor their daily diet with ease – with the latest Samsung Health update available starting today. To bring this innovation to life, Samsung has partnered with industry-leading companies specializing in health data integration, medication tracking and food barcode scanning, to enhance the experience in select markets. .

Manage your Health Record from a single, secure location

With a new section of Life records,2 users can easily access medical records from clinics, hospitals and major health networks – all in the Samsung Health app. Samsung has partnered with b.well Connected Health, a platform that integrates the largest electronic medical record (EMR) systems in the United States. including athenahealth, Cerner Health, Epic Systems and Verdigm®. The Health Records section guides users to focus on prevention by providing information and alerts that suggest next steps, such as recommending medical tests or actions. By providing an overview of their health history – including vaccination and prescription records, past hospital visits and even specific test results – users can communicate more effectively with providers they are in healthcare by having important medical information at their fingertips.

Advanced Medical Practice Expands to Other Users

Introduced in the US last year, the Medication Adherence section3 allowed users to easily keep track of medications and find tips and relevant information including general descriptions, possible side effects and warnings about drug interactions or food-related reactions. The feature is one of the most frequently used among users of the Samsung Health app in the United States, with nearly two-thirds returning to manage their medications at least three times a week. With the latest update, the Medication Tracking feature allows more users to easily manage their medications with expanded functionality and availability. With visual search, users can easily add medications to their medication list by scanning the pill bottle with their phone’s camera. They can also monitor adherence levels and easily monitor medication progress, including information about dosing intervals or dose changes, through a clear dashboard.

Pharmaceutical tracking is expanding to South Korea and India, creating strategic initiatives with key regional partners to provide insightful information to even more users. In the United States, in collaboration with Elsevier, a world-renowned health information agency, the Samsung Health app also provides alerts for more than 960 types of allergies and potential reactions to medicines. In Korea, with the Korea Pharmaceutical Information Center (KPIC), which is a powerful agency under the Korean Pharmaceutical Association, users can get warnings about medications to avoid during pregnancy. Additionally, in India, in partnership with Tata 1mg, India’s leading consumer healthcare platform, users will not only receive refill reminders, but do so easily online when needed.

Streamline Food Monitoring with Barcode Scanning

It is important to monitor the way a person eats every day and create healthy eating habits. Barcode scanning has been added to the Food Tracker in Samsung Health, making it even easier to record food information such as name, calories and nutritional information. In partnership with fatsecret, one of the world’s largest providers of verified food and nutrition data, users can scan food barcodes to find the information they need of nutrition in the app. The feature will first be available in the US and select European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland, and expand to other markets in the future.
